Your plane just landed at Oakland International Airport and you’re starved, desperate for a quick bite. Inexpensive and well-spiced Indian food is on your way to Interstate 880, so pop into the latest House of Curries, a mauve-and-tan schemed cavernous restaurant (adjacent to a hotel) where taxi drivers, chauffeurs and pilots rub elbows. The $9.75 lunch buffet from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. offers varying vegetable and meat dishes plus rice, tandoori chicken (memorable for its fiery kick), naan and dessert. The daal, aloo palak, chana masala and mixed vegetables from the buffet line were saucy and filling (though not piping hot), comfort food for this former non-meat eater. Lunch and dinner daily.
