Perennial Best Of Oakland winner, Little Shin Shin, a beloved and bustling Piedmont Avenue mainstay, can make a Chinese food lover out almost anybody. This is American-style Chinese—good, solid Szechuan-Hunan–style comfort food crafted with the masses in mind. Our friend treated us to sweet and sour soup, a sampler appetizer plate (spring rolls, cheese-filled wontons, pot stickers, fried prawns), Szechuan prawns and mu shu pork. Tasty, all. Shin Shin fans—and most are fiercely loyal, intolerant of any Shin Shin dissing—rave about the kung pao beef, walnut prawns and long beans. Don’t forget parking on Piedmont Avenue can be a challenge. Serves lunch and dinner daily.
