One of Oakland's most heralded restaurants, thanks to the discerning palate and talent of Paul Canales. A lovely summer menu of seasonal offerings includes combinations as simple as Christmas-green thistle penne topped with golden chanterelles and as succulent as charcoal-grilled Paine Farm pigeon. Salty-sweetSharmyl melon with prosciutto di Parma began a meal, and Madeira and peach semifreddo with wild blackberry sauce completed it. Upstairs is consistently full, but walking in at the less formal downstairs dining room is a good option. Breakfast Sun. Lunch Mon.-Fri. Dinner nightly.
