The wait for weekend breakfast can be ridiculous, but the pancakes, waffles and Erika’s French toast, and special egg-based combo plates like the Down South (with heavenly cornmeal pancakes and spicy sausage), Midwest (with crusty potato-cheese pancakes and a house-smoked pork chop) and North East (with red flannel hash) are the reasons folks hang around outside sipping Peet’s coffee from next door. Rick and Ann have built their following since 1989 by purveying not only their celebrated breakfasts but also great burgers (beef, turkey or vegan), soups, salads and sandwiches, and classic American supper fare including creamy macaroni and cheese, Niman Ranch meat loaf, free-range chicken pot pie, chops and steaks, plus nightly specials like grilled salmon, stuffed chicken breast, and spicy meatballs with couscous. Lunch and dinner hours are frequently busy and noisy, but friendly service and a pleasantly casual ambience always accompany the upscale down-home meals. Breakfast and lunch daily, dinner Tue.–Sun.
