With a long and colorful history dating back to 1926, including a stint as a windowless speakeasy, the Townhouse combines lived-in atmosphere with sophisticated style. Don’t let the exterior fool you; it hides an interior that underwent a major renovation after chef Ellen Hope Rosenberg took over in 1989 (becoming sole proprietor in 2002). Great for lunch and dinner, the chicken salad with blue cheese, apples, toasted pecans, currants and balsamic vinaigrette is a crowd favorite and should inspire many returns. The grilled flatiron steak with a mushroom crust, served with garlic mashed potatoes, is also very delicious. Every Wednesday and Thursday, enjoy live jazz music from 7–10 p.m. Lunch Mon.–Fri., dinner Mon.–Sat.
