Jet Encounters High Winds

High winds in the East Bay blew a Marine Corps A-4 Skyhawk jet off its pedestal in Alameda Point early Sunday morning, the Oakland Tribune reported today.

The National Weather Service in Monterey confirmed winds of 41 miles per hour at the Oakland airport early Sunday morning. It also reported up to 1.5 inches of rain in areas such as San Rafael.

"The winds weren't large-scale enough to be severely impacting like other storms can be," National Weather Service meteorologist Rick Canepa said.

David Eisenhauer of Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said the weather did no serious damage. He reported that only 90 customers throughout the East Bay lost power, and fewer than a dozen reported tree damage. "We fared pretty well," he said.

Canepa said the next few days will bring better weather. "You won't even know we'd had storm-like weather this past week," he said.
