• State Superintendent of Instruction Jack O'Connell will discuss the impact of proposed cuts to education funding during a 2:30 p.m. press conference on Friday, Feb. 22. In an event hosted at Oakland’s Place at Prescott Elementary School (920 Campbell St.), Mr. O'Connell will join OUSD State Administrator Vincent Matthews and officials from the California School Employees Association (CSEA), California School Boards Association (CSBA), California Federation of Teachers (CFT), California Teachers Association (CTA) and the California State Parent Teachers Association (CSPTA) in addressing the potential consequences of school budget cuts and the suspension of Proposition 98, which guarantees a minimum level of funding for California’s schools.
• Come join your neighbors this Saturday to Celebrate Oakland and its revitalization at a party benefiting the Old Oakland Neighbors association—a group that promotes business and a better lifestyle for business owners and residents of downtown area.
