Sentencing in Alameda Murder

A 16-year-old Oakland boy learned Friday that he may remain incarcerated until age 25 for his role in the slaying of a teenage girl at an Alameda park on Halloween night, the Oakland Tribune reported yeserday.

His brother, 15, and a 13-year-old boy were also sentenced in juvenile court in the death of Ichinkhorloo "Iko" Bayarsaikhan, an Alameda High School student who was shot during what police say was a botched robbery.

The youngest boy cried during the court proceedings on Friday. None of the three boys, who are from Oakland and among six youths charged in the case, were accused of firing the fatal shot.

Judge Rhonda Burgess said evidence showed that each boy knew that one of them was armed and that they entered Washington Park planning to commit a robbery.

She also noted that the group was responsible for at least three other attempted street robberies in the hours before they confronted 15-year-old Bayarsaikhan and about 10 of her friends. It made them "aiders and abettors" in the slaying, Burgess said.
