• Oakland comes alive every first Friday of the month, April 7, when a dozen-plus art galleries stage openings and receptions for Oakland Art Murmur. Telegraph Avenue and 23rd Street is ground zero, but galleries stretch from 20th to 42nd streets. Most galleries host free receptions, but some venues may charge a fee. Also check out Oakland Museum of California’s First Fridays After Five event. The museum offers a shuttle from various Art Murmur locations (see the museum Web site for more information). See films and special presentations and enjoy the full cash bar, museum store and cafe. All ages welcome. 5 p.m.–9 p.m., $8, $5 seniors and students, children under 6 free. • On Saturday, March 8, from 2 p.m.–4 p.m. at Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, you can experience traditional California Rancho Life with free live music and hands-on activities for the whole family that bring to life the days when Oakland was part of the Peralta cattle ranch. The Calicanto Singers perform lively authentic music in costume, directed by Lance Beeson, descendant of 18 members of the Anza Party who came to California in 1776. 2465 34th St., (510) 532-9142.
