$15 million for schools

Oakland has been selected as one of several locations from across the nation to receive a special education grant from The Atlantic Philanthropies. According to a recent release, the mayor is expected to attend  the $15 million grant announcement  today at 10 a.m. at Calvin Simmons Middle School, 2101 35th Ave., Oakland. The grant will go to help five Oakland schools over four years. "The selection of Oakland Unified to participate in this national initiative is a tremendous coup for our district's middle-school students," Mayor Ron Dellums said. The Atlantic Foundation is an international foundation with a focus on children and youth.

That grant is great news for Oakland schools. I hope it gets put to good use.
