Magazine Winners

Oakland Magazine took home three awards and Alameda Magazine one at the East Bay Press Club 2007 Excellence in Print Journalism Contest, according to a recent EBPC release. Other big winners at the awards banquet, held May 9 at the Silver Dragon in Oakland, included the Contra Costa Times with 19 awards, the San Francisco Chronicle with 16 and the Oakland Tribune with 15. Two student journalists, Stephanie Lin from the University of California, Berkeley and Justin Morrison of Contra Costa College, were honored.

• In the page design category, art director Debbi Murzyn took home a third-place win for Oakland Magazine’s “Slow Pleasures.”

• For illustration, contributing illustrator Julie Goonan won second place for Oakland Magazine’s “Earth Friend or Foe?

• In the short feature category, contributing writer Marcus Thompson won third place for Alameda Magazine’s “He Believed.”

• And in the lifestyle feature category, contributing writer Wanda Hennig earned third for Oakland Magazine’s “Slow Pleasures.”
