East Bay residents will soon have more Whole Foods and Trader Joe's stores to choose from ... and not a moment too soon. In Oakland, Trader Joe's is poised to take over two former Albertson stores—one on College Avenue and one on Lakeshore Avenue. But the big news is that tomorrow, Whole Foods Market launches a new store at 230 Bay Place at the corner of 27th and Harrison streets. Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff on Monday defended his office's handling of a sexual assault case against Ignacio De La Fuente Jr. after his father, City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, claimed that his son was innocent, the Oakland Tribune reported last week. The Lost Trio was formed in 1994 by Phillip Greenlief, Dan Seamans and Tom Hassett and stepped into existence with a steady gig every Thursday night at The Rose Pistola in San Francisco's North Beach district. The steady work lasted nearly two years, and was followed by a steady Sunday gig at Cato's Ale House in Oakland that lasted for nearly four years. The Lost Trio has a history of touring that has focused on venues up and down the West Coast, where they have also enjoyed many live radio appearances and in-store performances. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders last week and joined his teammates at practice for the first time since June, the Oakland Tribune reported Thursday. He agreed to a six-year contract Tuesday that guarantees him approximately $31 million, flew to Oakland later that day and rejoined the team after missing 48 days of practices and meetings, four exhibition games and Oakland's regular-season opener Sunday.
