It’s Easy Being Green.

Simple steps to save the planet.

I grew up in California during the devastating droughts and energy crisis of the 1970s. So our impact on the environment has always been on my mind. Now, with California facing another drought and Earth Day around the corner (April 22), I invite you to join me in being green at home and at work.

It’s easy being green when it fits naturally into your life; the key is finding the simple things that take little effort but make a big difference. Personally, I drive an electric car, use earth-friendly cleaning products, and run a Certified Green Business. What can you do?

• Shorter showers. Save water by limiting your shower to the length of one song—even if it’s “Stairway to Heaven.”

• Landscape with native, drought-tolerant plants and trees.

• Walk or bike to work or the grocery store. It is good exercise and good for the environment.

Stop by my office and I can show you how being green gets you green with paperless insurance billing, discounts for hybrid and electric cars, and low mileage discounts. And don’t forget to pick up a free T-shirt to show your support for our Share the Road campaign. Together, we’re making Oakland and the planet a safer place to live.
