Spring has sprung, and it’s time to celebrate the changing of the seasons as the days grow longer, the robins return, and the flowers put forth their first tentative blooms of the new year.
Alameda’s Spring Festival is the perfect family activity to bid farewell to the dreary winter weather and get outside in the sun. Falling on Mother’s Day weekend, this annual tradition is way better than the traditional Mother’s Day presents of burned breakfast in bed or a clay ashtray you made in art class.
The day features over 150 arts and crafts booths, selling photography, clothing, wood and metal crafts, and more. Adults can enjoy craft beers from Alameda Island Brewing Company and wines from Rock Wall Wine Company, while the whole family can munch on traditional fair food like corndogs, fried calamari, and funnel cakes. Musical acts, from rock to bluegrass, will perform throughout the day on two stages, and children can scramble up the rock wall or jump in the bounce castle in the special kids’ fun area. Sat.-Sun., May 12-13, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., free, Park Street between Encinal and Lincoln avenues, Alameda, DowntownAlameda.com
