A family-owned independent bookstore selling new, used, and rare books and records, Walden Pond Books has served the San Francisco Bay Area reading public from its store at 3316 Grand Avenue in Oakland, California since 1973. We also carry an eclectic selection of games, magazines, greeting cards, journals, calendars, and unique gift items. Open every day of the week, our hours are 10:00am to 7:00pm, Sunday through Thursday, and 10:00am to 8:00pm, Friday and Saturday.

About the Top 5 Best Bookstores in the 2022 Best of Oakland and the East Bay
Oakland Magazine’s Best of Oakland was born with the idea to give readers in Oakland and throughout the East Bay a chance to voice their opinions on their personal ‘Family Favorite’ choices for Best Bookstores and all kinds of everyday categories. The program has evolved over the years, and hopefully, with a lot of input from our readers, we’ve been able to make it better and better.
The voting for Best of Oakland Best Bookstores is conducted in a two-round process. The first round occurs in the month of February with open write-in nominations for reader’s favorite Best Bookstores taking place. Write-in nominations continue to be open until the middle of April.
As the nomination period for Best Bookstores in the first round comes to a close in mid April, shortly after, the second round opens with the top nominee Best Bookstores being selectable in this final round of voting during the month of April and May. Write-in nominations are no longer available, and voters are open to select their favorite Best Bookstores from among those that are listed.
The final winners are posted in July
