Live Oak Strength was founded in 2015 by Owen Dockham with the intention of creating a safe space where people of all backgrounds would feel welcome to train and get stronger with the safest, most effective, efficient and evidence based approach to exercise possible.

At Live Oak Strength we believe that exercise should enhance your life and not consume it. Our training philosophy is simple: 1.) Prioritize safety by working under direct supervision and moving slowly. 2.) Train twice per week with a high degree of effort. 3.) Recover fully so you can grow stronger and live better. With more time and strength outside of the gym, our clients enjoy a higher quality of life with fewer aches and pains. The end result is more energy, confidence, and carefree time enjoying physical activities they love – with the people they love.

Make no mistake, these workouts are not easy. To achieve your goals, we’ll help you stay focused and consistent, safely coaching you to a level of effort you’ll have to experience to believe. Your trainer will be by your side to help when each set gets challenging. All of our trainers regularly review the latest literature in exercise science to ensure your programming is optimized for the best results possible. We design programs for all ages and fitness levels; even for those with injuries and disabilities. Strength training is for EVERYONE. We welcome individuals of all genders, sexual orientations, national origins, colors, races, and religions with open arms.

Oakland Magazine’s Best of Oakland was born with the idea to give readers in Oakland and throughout the East Bay a chance to voice their opinions on their personal ‘Family Favorite’ choices for Best Gyms/Health Clubs and all kinds of everyday categories. The program has evolved over the years, and hopefully, with a lot of input from our readers, we’ve been able to make it better and better.
